Editor's review
Batch scanning of books or series of documents. Page splitting, cleaning, trimming, straightening and more can be performed with exactitude and ease. Simple OCR, sophisticated PDF generation and image conversion features are included as well.
Features: Batch scanning of books is made easy with this application. If you have a set of documents or trying to scan a book on a flatbed scanner this application can help. Scanning a book causes a lot of trouble. You get black patches on book gutter and other areas of pages. As you scan two pages at a time, it causes additional processing required in the form of splitting the images and cropping them right. Depending on the pressure maintained during scanning on the book, the pages sizes will vary and there will be variable amounts of distortion. Automatic cropping of all the pages will also be very difficult as placement of the pages on the scanner table every time it is held down manually could be different. The application can take care of the black areas in the book gutter as well as elsewhere on the page. Other noise removal processes help clean up the pages. Scanning two pages at once is easy since this application rotates and saves each scan as two files, and keeps the numbering right. The set of pages scanned, whether from a book or a set of documents are treated as a set and it allows page splitting, cleaning, trimming, straightening etc. to be done on the set. To help with the cropping of the pages fast, the application lets you automatically crop as also do a fast semi-automatic process for proper cropping. OCR functionality converts the text images into ASCII text and then create a PDF document generation and convert images in the document are also features that add to the usefulness of the application.
Overall: Good set of features support the functionalities. The interface is good and reasonably clean. Only issue appears to be that this is the version 1.0 so one can expect trouble.
